February is the month of love and in line with this year’s theme, “Home is Where the Heart is”, we show you how to put the heart back into your home by creating romantic spaces for some much-needed private (adult) time.

The Show this year is all about incorporating timeless trends, functionality, and comfort into your spaces; with this in mind our décor insider and Show Director, Cairey Baxter-Bruce shares a few of her top tips how you can set the right tone in your home for anniversaries, mid-week date nights or just simply some time away from the kids.

1. Bring the outdoors, indoors. Suspend translucent drapery and fairy lights for that starry night atmosphere. Place this above your bed or create a “tent-like” structure in the lounge, combined with a mattress and pillows for that “love-cove” effect. Decorate a coffee table with bright colours, little bright candles in glass jars and serve spicy snacks to re-create a Moroccan-style evening under the stars.

Alternatively, find some interesting branches from the garden, suspend them from the ceiling, above your dining room table, draping them in fairy lights to create your own starry-starry night. Dress your table in an Out of Africa theme for a romantic evening in the bush!

2. Garden dinner dates. If the weather is pleasant, a dinner date in a quiet spot in your own garden, is just as about as romantic as you can get! Lead your loved-one down a softly lit pathway by lining the route to your table with candles in glass jars, or a string of fairy lights or little solar lights.

3. Revive the drive-in romance. Another great idea for a romantic garden setup is to create your own drive-in setting. Bring back the romance of yester-year by placing a mattress with some throws and pillows in the back of your car/ bakkie and setup a projector on the roof to project your favourite romantic movie on a clear wall of your home. Add some indulgent snacks and a crisp bottle of bubbly to create a memorable evening.
